Mac RSS readers?
Now that I'm settling into OS X pretty happily, about the only part of the Windows experience I think I miss is the megafabulous FeedDemon RSS reader.
The 'newspaper' combined feed view it has is super-cool, and I'd love to find something similar in OS X. NetNewsWire's "Combined" view is sorta close, but I don't love it and I dunno whether I want to drop $40 on another feed reader.
Anybody have a favorite OS X reader? Should I just give up and send in the $40 for NNW?
I should note that I'm not super-into web-based things like Bloglines.
Also, if there's some other non-rss-reader utility I absolutely must have, I'd love to hear about it.

The only things I’ve tried are Bloglines (which you don’t dig) and PulpFiction — PF seemed good enough to plop down my money until I found bloglines…

Thanks, I’ll check out PulpFiction.

I love bloglines, as you know. Before I discovered it, I used NetNewsWire and liked it. And don’t forget, NetNewsWire Lite is free — you should at least check it out and see if it does what you need.
Other possibilities include Gosling’s Java RSS reader (which is not as polished as NetNewsWire), and perhaps there’s some firefox plugin which does what you need?

I use Shrook. It can be a bit of a resource hog (at least on my 1.25GHz G4), but it’s the only one that I’ve managed to get to work properly on my Mac… you can always try one of the Firefox extensions though.
My favorite is Safari RSS, but you have to put up with Tiger’s pre-release bugs… I can’t wait for the release version.

Huh, I hadn’t heard of Shrook. I’ll check that out as well, though NNW is kinda growing on me.
Thanks for the suggestions.

I’m on some mailing lists that have mentioned: NewsFire and the Sage extension to Firefox on OS X.
